About Us

Our commitment is to consistently deliver high quality early childhood education and care. Many of our Educators have been with us a long time and have a commitment to provide a quality child based program.

Welcome to Possum Magic Long Day Care Centre

Possum Magic is a family owned and operated Long Day Care Centre in the inner south suburb of Red Hill, Canberra.

We are a boutique, innovative and professional 66 place childcare centre, focused on each individual child, in a purposefully created family like environment with a culture of respect, stimulating learning experiences and developing meaningful interactions and relationships

The centre cares for children aged 6-months to school age, then we say goodbye to our children and watch them confidently and excitedly transition to their new primary school. The centre is open between 7:30am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year.

We understand the extremely important role of educating a child under the age of 6. This is when every child commences their developmental journey, that enables them to begin the wonderful journey of discovery and learning, ready for school years.

Possum Magic becomes an extension of your family and partners with you, to achieve the educational developmental milestones, whilst your child joyously explores the different environments they enjoy at this stage in their life.

Our boutique smaller centre gives Possum Magic the ability to be quickly responsive to meet a child’s needs and allows every child the freedom to be recognised as an individual and not get “lost” in a centre, with a large child intake to manage. Possum Magic acknowledges every child has their own unique talents and strengths, which excites the staff to work alongside your child, to maximise opportunities for enhancing and extending each child’s learning and development.

We understand your child is the most important and special part of your heart and life, therefore we respect and value the trust you place with the Possum Magic Educators, to ensure the time your child spends within the centre, is full of loving, compassionate and caring moments, enveloped within a fully compliant and safe environment.

The Possum Magic staff are the heart of our centre. Possum has a loyal, dedicated and long serving team of mature educators, whom many have already raised their own families and instinctively understand the needs of parents and children alike. They support and care for our Possum children and their families, with love and encouragement.

We are proud of our passionate, multi-cultural team, who genuinely enjoy working with our Possum children and together embrace the daily changing needs of everyone who belong to the Possum Magic Family.

Our Philosophy

At Possum Magic our philosophy is to provide a happy, warm and stimulating environment for all children.

We will provide support for the children to grow and develop to their individual full potential. We will always provide positive encouragement, support and opportunities for the children to explore their environment in a safe and nurturing way.

Staff will always acknowledge the children’s efforts and praise their individual milestones.We will ensure that the children are given opportunities to explore life experiences that will enable them to understand the uniqueness of all cultures and gender. Through adult role modelling children will develop an understanding of other unique cultures and become tolerant towards others and their abilities and beliefs. We will develop this attitude towards others through kindness, love and respect.

Possum is committed to providing an environment that offers children the opportunity to express themselves as individuals, to be able to participate in play through a wide range of activities and resources. To support an environment that is non-judgmental, friendly, secure and encourages an anti-bias approach to children’s play and interactions.

We will include and respect the needs of all the children by building an understanding of their cultural backgrounds and abilities and continuing to create an environment that encompasses the beliefs and expectations of the staff and parents.
